June 25th – Rabindranath During Social Distancing

Learn about Rabindranath Tagore, a Bengali poet, novelist and painter who was the first non-European to be awarded the Nobel Prize for Literature, in this uplifting, multimedia, webinar. In addition to an introductory talk about Tagore, a concert of his songs and poems, including live tabla and harmonium, will connect attendees to the world and each other during these difficult times of physical distancing. English translations will be shown on the screen. The participants will be Alokesh Duttaroy, Maitreyee Chakraborty, Raka Dutta, Monami Roy, Dhruva Acharya. Supported by a grant from the Newton Cultural Council.

This is a concert about reflections and thoughts on the current times and current events that plague us. How do we see this world? We will seek help from Rabindranath Tagore’s songs and poems. We will be joined by a percussionist who will demonstrate a couple of percussion instruments and a harmonium artist who will demonstrate her instrument. Please join us at 7 PM on 25th June.
