The next GELF cooking class fundraiser, with Newton North parent & Spanish chef extraordinaire Yasmin Dalton, will support two topical and important causes: GELF (travel scholarships for low-income students in Newton Public Schools) & Families Organizing for Racial Justice (FORJ), a vital Newton-based organization that partners with Newton schools and other local organizations to help our children learn about issues of power and inequality and how to stand up for racial justice. FORJ strives to achieve safe and welcoming environments that enhance the well-being of all people, and helps our community work together towards racial equity.
GELF is horrified by the ongoing examples of racism and disregard for black lives in the news, and we believe our mission of supporting low-income students to have life-changing opportunities goes hand in hand with FORJ’s mission to promote racial equity in our community. We are proud to be supporting both causes and hope you will join us.
